Celebrating Spring

We hosted an Easter Egg Hunt and Brunch at our house yesterday.

It was fun to have a a few laughs,

share good food,

watch the kids run for eggs (sprint like crazy is more like it!),

and just celebrate springtime with dear friends.

I actually tricked a few people with these pudding and Oreo cups with mint. But the kids didn't need too much encouragement to, "eat the dirt!"

Sicko Kiddo and Cuddly Kitty

My sweet Soni was sick today, and I felt so grateful that I could come home from my flexible job to take care of her. It seemed like Bella sensed that she was sick and came over to cuddle with her. So sweet. I love these two so very much.

Tired, but Content

It's so peaceful this evening, with a spring snow softly falling, the fire blazing, my kitty asleep on the couch beside me, the kiddos laughing away at old episodes of The Cosby Show, Eric on his way home with ingredients for Irish Cream, a long, stressful week behind me.

I'm tired, but content. Stiff in the neck, but warm in the heart. Ready for a weekend, but already geared up for another week of work, home, family and my life, which is so good I can hardly believe it.

38

I had such a lovely 38th birthday. I awoke to clatter in the kitchen and wondered what was going on at first, then realized in a sleepy haze that, "Hey! It's my birthday."

They were making me breakfast. Sonja made eggs. Ani made orange juice. Bryni made toast. Daddy made coffee. And supervised.

On the breakfast table were red roses and a gift certificate for some fun at a salon. I see a mani-pedi in my future.

That evening, we had dinner out and enjoyed a very large chocolate cake. Yes, it came from Costco as do most things in our home. De-lish.

One of my best birthdays ever. For certain.

My Princesses and my Blizzard-Bringer

The girls were in a Missoula Children's Theatre play last week: so. fun.

They all did a great job. The play was THE PRINCESS AND THE PEA. Soni was the princess, Ani was a phony princess and Bryni was a blizzard-bringer.

We all had a wonderful week - busy, crazy, hectic and so so worth it for these sweet smiles.

S'no Day Like a Snow Day

My kiddos playing in the snow. A nice, warm winter memory.

They're just so beautiful to me that it almost hurts. I know that these moments of childhood with them are fleeting, numbered.

How to hold on? How to prolong? There's no holding on, no prolonging. Only savoring.

Love this Poem

I heard this poem on NPR the other day. Just lovely.

French Toast
by Anya Krugovoy Silver

Pain perdu: lost bread. Thick slices sunk in milk,

fringed with crisp lace of browned egg and scattered sugar.

Like spongiest challah, dipped in foaming cream

and frothy egg, richness drenching every yeasted

crevice and bubble, that's how sodden with luck

I felt when we fell in love. Now, at forty,

I remember that "lost bread" means bread that's gone

stale, leftover heels and crusts, too dry for simple

jam and butter. Still, week-old bread makes the best

French toast, soaks up milk as greedily as I turn

toward you under goose down after ten years

of marriage, craving, still, that sweet white immersion.
